Debunking the Myths of Chiropractic

What have you heard about Chiropractors?

I’ve heard a lot of great stories! but I’ve also heard quite a few rumors. I’m here to put those rumors to rest: “Debunking the Myths of Chiropractic!” These are 10 common myths about Chiropractic along with some truth!

You may say you’ve heard this before. Last year, I created this series by YouTube videos on my channel (Watch them HERE). I will be honest: they are not the greatest quality of video, but if you like to watch rather than read, you can hear almost all of the same information there! Either pathway, comment your questions, share your stories, and enjoy!

Myth 1: You will become Addicted to Chiropractic

  • The thought is that you will have to keep going back to the chiropractor for the rest of your life… B. U. T…
  • It’s not that you HAVE to, but it’s recommended. You will WANT to come back. Problems and issues develop over many years, and they can’t be fixed in a day. There are many great benefits other than just pain relief (Read about what makes me dance in THIS POST).

Myth 2: Chiropractic is Expensivedollar-currency-money-us-dollar-47344.jpeg

  • Direct comparison to hospital costs, often a consultation/exam with a specialist is even more expensive. High costs for extensive imaging and medications. Overall, chiropractic is dramatically less.
  • A patient on average has 6 visits per complaint. Regular chiropractic treatment to maintain wellness is less expensive than care to treat illness. What is your health worth to you?

Myth 3: Chiropractic isn’t covered by Insurance

  • Different plans have different coverage. A portion of your care is often covered with varying copays. Many times you will have to reach your deductible before you begin paying your copay.
  • Some chiropractors will be in network with your insurance, others will submit to your insurance and be out of network, and other offices are considered a cash practice. A cash practice means that you are electing to pay for your care, and then have the option to submit it to the insurance company for reimbursement.
  • As a chiropractor that accepts most insurance, we do submit your care to the insurance company. We do not require a referral from another physician to submit your care to the insurance.

Myth 4: Chiropractors aren’t Real Doctorspexels-photo-721166.jpeg

  • A chiropractic degree requires 2,887 class hours of education. We go through over a year as interns, treating patients. A medical doctor only requires 2,756 hours. If you didn’t notice our 2,800+ hours is more than their 2,700+.
  • With that, we do work with other doctors. Each physician has a specialty, as there are times for a primary physician, a cardiologist, neurologist, internist, orthopedist, podiatrist, dentist, and chiropractor. You will be treated best by a collection of physicians who work together to take care of you!

Myth 5: Chiropractors only treat Back Pain

  • We treat the entire body! There are joints from head to toe, all of which can be adjusted. Chiropractic is great for sports injuries, and can help with headaches (Read THIS POST), neck pain (Read THIS POST), sciatica, shoulder restriction, weak ankles, and more. We are also great care following an auto injury (Read THIS POST).

Myth 6: You only go to a Chiropractor when you have a Specific Injury

  • Have you ever had a checkup with your primary physician? Do you go to the eye doctor each year? Do you see a dentist to get your teeth cleaned twice a year?
  • Or do you only go when you have a complaint? Regular care will help keep you well, improve the nervous system and the immune system.

Myth 7: You need a doctor’s referral to see a Chiropractor

  • A chiropractor is a doctor (established at #4), and can also act as a primary physician in many states.
  • At an appointment, the chiropractor will meet you, learn about your health history, perform an exam, provide you with a report of findings and a diagnosis, and suggest a treatment plan. Each case is different!

Myth 8: Chiropractic isn’t Safe, and it hurts

  • Most patients feel a sense of relief following treatment. The safety of chiropractic is proven by the fact that malpractice insurance is less expensive than any other type of health care provider.

Myth 9: “I’m too old for Chiropractic”pexels-photo-733881.jpeg

  • No patient is not a chiropractic patient. If you’ve had surgeries, we will work with them or work around them. Everyone, no matter how old or HOW YOUNG (yes, even babies) can and should be adjusted.

Myth 10: All Chiropractors are the Same

  • Each chiropractor is different, just as every person is different. We all have something that makes us special. Different doctors have different adjusting techniques. Different techniques work better for each individual. Some docs will spend five minutes with a patient, while others spend up to 30+ minutes. Some docs do muscle work, some do exercises, and others only adjust the spine. Specialties in certain sports nutrition, neurology, acupuncture, and more.

Hello, I’d like to reintroduce myself! My name is Dr. Lindsey Carper. I utilize chiropractic, acupuncture, and sports rehab to help my patients not only find pain relief but also improve their overall functional wellness in athletics as well as in their everyday lives. I specialize in problem solving to find the causes of their symptoms or the imbalances that may create problems, and then I restore the body’s proper abilities and health along with improving disease prevention. With this, my favorite patients are young adults dancers and ice skaters, improving their performances! but I treat infants and toddlers all the way up to seniors with varying activity levels, helping improve their lives. I help patients move better and compete better in athletics, but I also help them breathe better, think better, and even poop better.
